The La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles have preserved over 3.5 million Ice Age fossils — including mammoths, saber-toothed cats, dire wolves, and giant sloths. Animals got trapped in the natural asphalt seeps and were preserved for 10,000–50,000 years.
