Okefenokee Swamp
Georgia's Okefenokee Swamp covers roughly 438,000 acres, making it one of the largest intact freshwater ecosystems in North America. The name comes from a Muscogee word meaning <hl>"Land of the Trembling Earth"</hl> — the peat deposits actually quake when walked upon.
